Further information

The availability of local data/information (places, events, news, people) from public(local and national government), commercial and generally on the Internet is transforming a number of established market sectors including local newspapers, directories, tv and classifieds. The development of new ‘2.0’ services is potentially transforming these industries with legacy solution and business processes and the revenue is shifting rapidly online.

Local advertising is shifting online and with new location aware devices both GPS and others such as the iPhone we are starting to see the creation of a new breed of ‘hyperlocal’ services providing people with access to news, information and entertainment that is ‘local’ to them at the point of time where they are.

We are also starting to see the emergence of local social networks as people start to use the network to connect and communicate with those near them.

We see people travel to city centres to network yet the people they meet often live near to their home.  There is value in the locality that isn’t immediately obvious – online local networks can make this apparent.

From a non-business perspective, there is a desperate need for people to share and refer good and bad local business services from valuable home help to cowboy plumbers.
